09.16.05 | MONDAY OFF SINGS AT BIRDLAND, JAZZ CORNER OF THE WORLD, THEN RECORDS NEW CD On August 15 we had an unbelieveably terrific time singing at Birdland. We kinda rocked the house, if we do say so ourselves. We had a great turnout and we've been asked to return to sing some more! It was pretty mind-bending to sing on one of the most famous jazz stages in the world. We tried out a few new tunes (Soon It's Gonna Rain, Jive At Five) and even pulled out some older ones that we hadn't done in a while (Meet Me In St. Louis) and they went over amazingly well. Special thanks again to Avishai Cohen and his trumpet who sat in on "World On A String" and his sister Anat Cohen who joined us on "Almost Like Being In Love" on sax, then "Soon It's Gonna Rain" and "So Danco Samba" on clarinet. Their unparalleled musicianship and sound added such richness to our tunes. We are very lucky to have also recorded our new CD with them (more below) And, of course, a huge thanks to all our friends and fans who came, and thanks to the new faces that were out there. We will post some great pictures of the event very soon on this site. Keep watching for them.
Just a few days after the Birdland gig, we headed back into the studio over the following two weeks to record our new CD. So far, the rough mix sounds great, and over the next couple of months the real mixing proccess will take place. We're hoping to get the CD out and available by Christmas. Joining us on the CD as guest musicians are Gene Bertoncini on guitar, Avishai Cohen on trumpet, and Anat Cohen on clarinet. The trio consists of Dan Kaufman on piano, David Wong on bass and Ernesto Cervini on drums and percussion. The CD is still untitled as of now, and is being mixed by producer Oded Lev-Ari and engineer Michael Brorby. We'll keep you posted on the status!
12.20.04 | MONDAY OFF SWUNG IN THE HOLIDAYS ON ABC'S WORLD NEWS NOW We made our National Television debut at 3 AM Eastern Time December 15 as we appeared on ABC’s World News Now at around 3 AM! Insomniacs across America were delighted to be serenaded with “Deck The Halls!” We also taped “Christmas Time Is Here” for the broadcast, and the two tunes were aired intermittently for the following two weeks. Thanks, ABC!
Incidentally, Monday Off made their local television debut in 1999 on a local CBS affiliate in Baltimore singing “Christmas Time Is Here.”
